Quick to Listen.

On Sunday we talked about the importance of listening to others. We want people to listen to us.  Therefore, following the golden rule (Matthew 7:12) we listen to others. This is important in all our relationships. This is especially important for our relationships with people who don’t yet have faith.

But it’s not just the golden rule that teaches us to listen. Consider this passage from James.

My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires. James 1:19-20

Quick to listen. Slow to speak. Slow to become angry. Wouldn’t it be great if this was our reputation at St. Paul’s Church? I’ve seen tremendous progress in our community in this area. But I think we all (including myself) can do better.
