Sermon Recap: Blessed are the Finishers.Posted: November 7, 2012
Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.
1 Corinthians 9:24-27
There’s a crown. The crown goes to everyone. The crown goes to everyone who finishes the race.
And how do you finish a race? You don’t try harder. You train better. You establish daily, weekly, yearly habits.
There are two daily habits to incorporate in your life:
- Reveal your heart to God in prayer every day.
- Renew your mind with Scripture every day.
And there are three weekly habits to incorporate in your life.
- Reflect on your life by observing a Sabbath.
- Reconnect with God by attending a Weekend Service.
- Refresh with God’s people by participating in a small group.
And here is one yearly habit to incorporate in your life: Refine your life vision by taking time away.
Happy are the finishers for they shall get the crown. Happy are the finishers for they shall gain the victory. Happy are the finishers for they do in fact overcome.
